In order to generate xorg.conf you need to switch to one virtual console using the key combination CTRL + ALT + F1....

ok tried "lsipci :grep vga" command and shows this

VGA compatible controller: Trident Microsystems CyberBlade XPAi1 (rev 82)

and ddcprobe shows this

Since I've updated Ubuntu a few times the boot options have old builds, I assume it also keeps the old files. Is there a cleanup util in which prunes old files and tidies up the boot menu?

Then I'll never use Ubuntu for my HTPC, if digital out isn't working!:(

Does the digital output work fully? Does it pass PCM, Dolby Digital & DTS streams?
Also if anyone can shed some light on the above error code.
