  1. [ubuntu] Re: 9.10 Problem: Disable Subpixel font smoothing in Firefox?

    Edit /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-antialias.conf to replace "true" with "false" as follows:

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>

  2. [ubuntu] Re: 9.10 Problem: Disable Subpixel font smoothing in Firefox?

    The problem turned out to be an issue of font hinting and not smoothing.

    Firefox doesn't follow Gnome's rules. It uses slight font hinting instead of full hinting.

    The solution is as follows:

    [ubuntu] Re: Broadcom wireless support broken.

    Waited a few hours till I had access to a wired connection and installed bcmwl-kernel-source through Synaptic. All fine now.
  4. [ubuntu] [SOLVED] 9.10 Problem: Font hinting in Firefox?

    Yesterday I made a fresh install of Karmic Koala. I hate Subpixel smoothing (aka ClearType). I always set the font smoothing method to Grayscale.

    [ubuntu] Re: Broadcom wireless support broken.

    Aha. The thing is that I downloaded the packages manually (even went through some dependency hunting like old days) and installed them using gdebi (dpkg's gui).

    I'll try to get synaptic install...

    [ubuntu] Re: Broadcom wireless support broken.

    I installed bcmwl-kernel-source and rebooted; It still doesn't work.

  7. [ubuntu] Re: Old drivers to solve slowness of new intel drivers?

    Thanks I'll try that, both are basically the same.

    I tried to revert to 2.4 driver, it's even worse.

    Why weren't the old 2.3 drivers just built for intrepid or jaunty?
    That would have saved us...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Old drivers to solve slowness of new intel drivers?

    It seems that it's already been done.

    From the release notes:

  9. [ubuntu] Old drivers to solve slowness of new intel drivers?

    Arch Linux solved the problem of the slow intel drivers by providing the old drivers under the name xf86-video-intel-legacy.

    Is there a chance that somebody build the old driver (version 2.3.2...
  10. [ubuntu] After upgrading to 9.04, no "logout" and "shutdown" options in "System" menu.

    The title says it all.
    After upgrading to Jaunty, the logout and shutdown entries in the System menu disappeared.

    More annoyingly is that Alt+F2 doesn't work anymore.

    Any ideas?
