[Solved] Same-gnome / Swell foop issues

Ok, so this would not look like a big change for most of us, but my parents were used to play "same-gnome"

Since Lucid, same-gnome has been replaced by Sweep foop and it is probably linked to the fact that it has become totally slow, CPU consuming, and finally just totally unplayable.

I cant understand how such a basic game (that used to work perfectly with same hardware) now takes like 5 seconds to refresh the display.

So, here is my question: is it possible to have Same-gnome back?

Or Is it possible to disabled totally useless and pointless 3d effects used by default? (no options found in gconf-editor neither)

Did anyone ever play that game? I didnt exept a few minutes ago after my mum complaint after Lucid upgrade, but how could anyone seriously need any fancy visual effexts for such a basic game really??

Same Gnome was fine as it was. This was just another thing to change(like the buttons) for the sake of change. This swill poop game is horrendously unplayable and should never have made it into lucid.

You can install the package from Karmic: http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/poo...untu1_i386.deb

One major problem Swell foop needs to be removed, when you do so, your asked to remove gnome-games.

So request to Ubuntu to drop Swell foop, and re-introduce same-gnome game.

I have two computers running in Bar, this game same-gnome is very popular in this new release Lucid Lynx it was omitted.

Probably best to report it on launchpad. Then some ignorant dev can tell you that it was done for "a good reason".

Is there a package out there for the whole gnome-games package from Karmic? Like someone else said, we have to remove gnome-games to install the old Same Gnome, but I want the other games too--but I'm happy to have Karmic versions!

(Sorry to be such a noob. I browsed to the folder http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gnome-games/ but couldn't figure out which one to get.)

Yes, please, everybody post your problems with this package to launchpad. I'm getting segfaults almost every time I try to play this game. Even if you don't post a comment, click where the question is asked if the bug affects you and answer "yes, this bug affects me."

If apport isn't catching the crash (it doesn't on two of my intallations), check in /var/log/messages and see if you are getting anything like this:

    May 6 22:31:01 tobuntu kernel: [21279.514692] seed[6827]: segfault at 20 ip 00007f7de5894fd0 sp 00007fff41d773e8 error 4 in libclutter-glx-1.0.so.0.200.4[7f7de5868000+f0000]

In the meantime, here's the link for the AMD64 version too:

At your own risk, you may want to try this:

    http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/poo...buntu3_all.deb

Let us know how/if it works for you. It looks like it's a metapackage .deb file to me. It's built for Gnome 2.28 (as in Karmic), not 2.30. That's the very latest package, from February, but that is not the Lucid package. That package is 2.30.0-0ubuntu6.

BTW, uninstalling swell-foop just uninstalls swell-foop and the metapackage gnome-games. All the other games are left intact. The message synaptic gives about uninstalling gnome-games is a bit misleading, especially to some of us who have tried removing a certain package only to see a cascade effect on dependencies. That's not the case in this instance.

    Re: Same-gnome / Sweel foop

Ok, it finally worked for me. Here's how:

    1. Used Synaptic to uninstall gnome-games, which to my surprise didn't uninstall all the games! (Is that something worth reporting in launchpad--that as a Ubuntu newbie, this didn't function the way I expected?)
    2. Tried installing the old gnome-games .deb that djchandler recommended, but got a package installation error--something about Blackjack.
    3. But now that gnome-games was uninstalled, I tried installing the older same-gnome .deb that AnRa suggested--and it said it conflicted with the currently installed swell-foop. (This surprised me, since I thought uninstalling gnome-games would make swell-foop go away too.)
    4. Used Synaptic to uninstall swell-foop.
    5. Tried installing the older same-gnome .deb again, and it works!
