I'm fairly new to Linux and Ubuntu but I'm getting there (have three PCs with versions of Linux now installed).

One of the PCs (an older Fujitsu Siemens Euroline PC) is a dual boot machine that I resized the Boot parition which had XP on and now have Ubuntu 9.04 as the default OS.

In XP the Scanjet 2100C works perfectly, and in Ubuntu xsane 0.996 the device is recognised. When I click on Scan it starts to perform a scan but the Scan sensor moves a fraction of an inch and then stops with a clunk and then both the scanner and xsane sit there doing nothing until I cancel the scan and it reverts to normal position with another clunk.

Any ideas. Are there any terminal commands I can run to extract any error logs to help with fault finding?

Hope you can help - I'm trying to remove my dependency completely on M$ stuff.

Just got the scanner and then PDAs to go.
