First Cup of Ubuntu
i wanted to install ubuntu and grub on a 1TB Seagate Freeagent Goflex portable hdd. on booting from it, i get a grub rescue error- unknown filesystem.

The other post is difficult to follow, because ls is not used to display partitions, so it's not clear what you are doing.
Goflex is a large family of products; which one do you have?
