Xchat rendering slowly since 10.4

Hi

Since the upgrade from ubuntu 9.10 to 10.4 xchat renders really slowly. Almost 1 second to render fully from top to bottom. The strange part is that it is only the main text window, the channel list and user lists render quickly.

Is there a way to fix this? It is extremely annoying in channels with lots of chat

edit: correction, its only when switching workspaces or alt-tabbing or just switching channels, still annoying though
