    10.04 alternate install & SiS Mirage 671/672

    I'm trying to install 10.04 from the alternate install CD on my laptop with the SiS Mirage 671/672 GFX chipset. I'm using the alternate CD because I want to encrypt my entire hard drive from start. With the 9.10 alternate install I managed to get to the install screen by adding vga=789 (as described at http://www.greenhughes.com/content/c...ive-install-cd) but now all I get is a flickering screen. I have tried most of the modes at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BI...o_mode_numbers but all gives the same result.

    Please help

    I have the same problem. I've installed ubuntu 10.04 with normal installation but the SiS driver that i used in ubuntu 9.10 does not work with this version. In the loading and in ttys i see a flickering screen..

    The error that gives me at start GDM is:
    (EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/sismedia_drv.so
    (EE) Failed to load module "sismedia" (loader failed, 7)
    (EE) No driver avaliable

    anyone has a working driver for 10.04 version? or should i go back to 9.10?

    Where did you find the Alternate Install CD?? Ubuntu seems to do a great job of hiding it better each release...
    thanks...

    hrharr0, thanks for the info and location... any idea why they hide the alternate CD, which I believe is more important? after all, it's the CD used for upgrading, what I thought would be more desireable for Ubuntu, meaning folks are using the OS....

    I really need this information... I have SiS Mirage 672, my question is: If I install Ubuntu 10.04 with alternate CD, graphics work after install (at minimum resolution)?

    Thanks in advance!

    @merlinof2
    it's not really hidden, you can found it in ubuntu's page...
    go to ubuntu.com, go to download (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download), after the choose location, you have a link that sais:
    Alternative download options, including Ubuntu installer for Windows
    there you have:
    Text-based installer

    it wasn't that hard to get there for me.

    @jodlajodla
    after i installed ubuntu (not with alternate CD) graphics worked (using VESA driver) but tty's didn't work, but i solve that with the link i posted before. I strongly belive that it will work the same way installing with alternate cd... i guess you'll have to try...
